Shamrock Lodge house gardens and gate Lodge, Courtyard on 1.34 ha / 3.05 acres
Savills are delighted to present Shamrock Lodge to the market. This charming period home dates back to circa 1835 and has been in the current families' ownership for nearly 60 years as a family home.
The house is well set back from the road, surrounded by mature gardens and numerous specimen trees giving great privacy on all sides and while it is presented in good condition, it will benefit from refurbishment and decoration.
The accommodation is laid out over two floors with attic rooms and boasts wonderful period features with original oak parquet and pitch pine wood floors, corniced ceilings with center roses and recessed sash windows with wooden shutters.
The main reception rooms are bright and spacious and arranged around the main hall. There is a long western red cedar conservatory on the south west side of the house which enjoys great light and a wonderful aspect of the garden. A library occupies the first floor return and the main bedrooms are on the first floor with a sixth bedroom in the return to the walk in attic.
To the rear of the main house is found the enclosed courtyard which has a series of useful buildings including stables, former calf houses, a lofted coach house, former cattle stalls and the garage (with maintenance pit). Connemara ponies were bred by the family.
The gate lodge is at the entrance gates and while currently in poor condition it does offer an incoming purchaser an excellent rental opportunity, if developed.

The essence of Shamrock Lodge is not only the fine Georgian house but the gardens in which it sits. Developed over many decades the old world gardens are in a tranquil and lush woodland garden setting with extensive lawns interspersed with numerous mature and imposing specimen trees including horse chestnuts, beeches, limes and birch trees. Other interesting more recently planted trees include wellingtonias, a memorial weeping purple beech, a rare young handkerchief tree, an Atlantic blue cedar, American red oak, golden fastigate Irish yew, golden weeping willow and whitebeams. Steps lead to a partially walled herbaceous garden (in need of restoration) and old declining orchard. A previous extensive vegetable garden is currently in grass. Although no longer there the OSI historic 25 inch series (1897 1913) shows a summer house in the herbaceous garden which is now occupied by an archway with a stone horse trough, used as a rock garden, with surrounding paving.
There are a range of buildings in the courtyard which include a number of stables, old calf houses, lofted coach house, old cattle stalls and a garage.
The gate lodge is in need of full refurbishment. The entrance gates beside gate lodge are listed as a protected structure under Athy Town Development plan.
