    About this property

    • Dove Cottage is a most attractive and well presented country property. Originally part of a row of three 18th century cottages and two bothies on the local estate, it was acquired by the sellers in 1991. They then set about a complete renovation of the cottage which at one point was used as a holiday let and then as a shop for Finavon Fabrics. In 2014 Dove Cottage was beautifully extended to create a larger family home, incorporating some fabulous oak work and beams by the well known Gaetan Goubet. The original cottage is stone built with a slate roof, while the extension is harled, again with a slate roof.

A particular feature of the house is a wonderful open plan living/dining/kitchen with its magnificent oak beams and staircase. It also has oak flooring, as has the hallway, shower room and upstairs principal bedroom and en suite. The snug and bedroom two have maple flooring. The house also benefits from triple glazing in the dining room, kitchen, utility, shower room and principal bedroom, with the rest of the house being double glazed, including some feature leaded cottage windows in the original part. The house sits within its own lovely enclosed gardens and is now a wonderful family home.

Gates open onto a gravelled parking area, from where a further gate opens to the garden. A covered entrance has a front door to the hallway with a useful storage cupboard. To one side is the open plan living/dining/kitchen, which is on two levels, with its fine oak features. The lower level has full height windows and freestanding wood burning stove, while the dining area has French doors to the garden. The kitchen has a Neptune island with an oak worktop, wooden sink and Siemens slimline dishwasher. In addition there is a Mercury range cooker with extractor. A utility room has fitted units with sink, plumbing for a washing machine and a back door to the garden. Also off the hallway is a shower room with washbasin and WC. Beyond is the snug with a cosy stone fireplace, and which could have potential for another bedroom (subject to any necessary consents). Off this are two bedrooms, with bedroom two presently being used as an office. A fine oak staircase from the dining room leads up to the principal bedroom, overlooking the living room, and which again has splendid oak beams, along with fitted cupboards, wardrobe, access to loft storage, and an en suite with freestanding bath, washbasin and WC.

The lovely enclosed garden is terraced and mainly in lawn. Beyond are wooded areas providing shelter. In front of the house is a gravelled area while to the side is a paved terrace, a wooden garden shed and a swim spa covered by awnings. By the entrance is a further wooden garden shed.
