Further Information

Designed by Sir William Chambers between 1767 and 1769 this unique Grade 11* Listed house was originally part of the Montague Estate, being built within the extensive, walled fruit and vegetable garden.

Due to its distinctive Chinese style it is one of the areas most unique landmarks and has been home to several famous families. Caroline, the estranged wife of George, Prince of Wales was said to have enjoyed a notorious social life while residing in the Pagoda although latterly she did use the house as a school for young children.

In 1855 the house was extended to become a grand house in its own right and in 1913 a local camera manufacturer, Frank Butcher bought the lease. He proceeded to embellish the interior with wonderful Arts and Crafts panelling in the magnificent double height hallway and grand dining room and Oriental lacquered panelling in the imposing drawing room.

This outstanding property, set within tranquil surroundings, is the epitome of a country house situated only minutes away from the centre of London. It boasts impressive reception rooms, five spacious bedrooms and an unusual Pagoda Room, with extensive views across London and further flexible accommodation for family or office use. In addition to the off street parking for at least five cars and the striking landscaped garden. There is the added bonus of a two bedroom annexe which could provide ideal nanny/granny accommodation.
