The land gently rises from 310 to 550 metres above sea level, the lower lying meadow and pasture land being classified as Grade 4 and the allotment ground Grade 5 under the MAFF Provisional Agricultural Land Classification. Soils are predominantly from the Brickfield 3 series, with some areas of East Keswick and Wilcocks 1 series soils.
