A diverse conifer forest situated close to Perth in Central Scotland
The forests form part of the Scone Estate, which has over 1000 years of history. They are long established, recorded on the 1900 Ordnance Survey, planted to supply timber to the estate sawmill.
Situated in a fertile tree growing area, the woodlands have a diverse age structure with younger crops in particular benefiting from the excellent ground and climatic conditions, with some examples of exceptional growth.
Both sites are well suited to commercial conifer production, being predominantly classified as F2 on the land capability series, which is land with very good flexibility for the growth and management of tree crops. There is a small amount of F3 classification to the west of Lot 1 on higher ground. Soils are predominantly fertile brown earths, with some podzols, and are well drained.
