    About this property

    • Sea House is a beautifully proportioned and presented home set in landscaped gardens with covered heated swimming pool, occupying an elevated position in the North Foreland Private Estate. The house is understood to date from the turn of the 20th century and it commands wonderful sea views from the majority of the rooms. Internally, it offers extremely comfortable and flexible accommodation which is arranged over four floors, including a soundproof studio, excellent entertaining space and a three room cellar.

The front door opens to the welcoming reception hall with Amtico flooring which continues through to the principal reception area; a beautiful light filled space with high ceilings, typical of the original period, sea views and direct access to the garden. It incorporates three individual, interconnecting areas; a music room, a formal dining room and a sitting room with wood burning stove.

In addition, there is an impressive dual aspect library/reception room with custom fitted bar and direct terrace access. Off this room there is a study and separate home office. Several steps lead down to the 27ft kitchen/breakfast/family room, another excellent entertaining space. The kitchen by Colliers, features a range of painted oak cupboards, central islands, a gas fired four oven Aga, a five ring gas hob, Miele dishwasher and space for further appliances. A utility room and cloakroom complete the ground floor accommodation.

Separate staircases give access to the first floor where there are a total of five attractive bedrooms, two benefitting from air conditioning and having access to a lovely wide balcony from where the sea views can really be enjoyed. The principal bedroom has a dressing area and an en suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, bedroom two has an en suite shower room, with the remaining bedrooms on this floor being served by a Jack and Jill shower room, a family bathroom and separate WC. On the second floor there are currently two further bedrooms, a gym (which could be a bedroom) and a bathroom fitted in the traditional style with freestanding roll top bath.

Sea House is approached via two electric sliding gates with the block paved drive providing off road parking. The enclosed gardens have been landscaped by the current owners, to one side is the herb garden which continues to the main garden to the rear. There is established hedging, fencing, mature olive, magnolia and bay trees and flowerbeds planted with lavender, thyme and seasonal shrubs. A pergola overlooks the heated pool which has a telescopic cover. Steps lead up to the various terraces, perfect for al fresco entertaining. Outbuildings comprise a summerhouse and a garden room/workshop, both with power and light.

I loved seeing this light filled home with its lovely sea views. The local area has so much to offer with its fascinating literary connections, annual festivals, golf course and sandy beaches.

    Local information

    • The popular coastal town of Broadstairs, on the Isle of Thanet, is known as the Jewel in Thanet's Crown and also has the Latin motto of Stella Maris, meaning Star of the Sea. In Victorian times, Charles Dickens was a frequent visitor to Broadstairs, where he had a summer residence, known as Bleak House, and it was here that he is said to have written David Copperfield. John Buchan also resided here for a time, and some believe that his book, The Thirty Nine Steps, was named after the set of steps that lead to the beach from North Foreland Estate. Of further interest is North Foreland Lighthouse , within view of Sea House and apparently the last manned lighthouse in the country.
    • Together with its sandy beaches, Broadstairs has so much to offer, there are art galleries, The Dickens House Museum, a good selection of shops and restaurants, together with leisure facilities including North Foreland Golf Club and Thanet Squash Raquets Club. Festivals throughout the year include The Dickens Festival and the Broadstairs Food Festival.
    • Rail Services: Broadstairs station (1.5 miles) has services to London St Pancras in approximately 120 minutes.
    • Education: There are a range of schools in the area including St Mildred's Primary School, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Dane Court and Chatham and Clarendon Grammar Schools and various independent schools in Canterbury and the surrounding areas.
