About this property

  • Cwmberach Uchaf Farm has been in the vendors family for many years and the current owners took it over in 2014 to continue farming and build up the tourist diversification and outdoor activities business that exists today. The farm has not been worked for about 20 years when they took it over and one advantage of the pause in farming was that the land had become something of a nature reserve with badgers, foxes, owls, red kites and other endangered bird species thriving. Cuckoos, now the 5th most endangered bird in the UK, visit and breed here every year as they always have. The landscape has prompted visitors to comment on the genuine ‘away from-it-all' feeling of remoteness, quiet and wildness.

The current owners have converted a barn into a cosy holiday cottage and set up an exciting holiday safari glamping site in partnership with Feather Down that now works with over 75 farms across Europe to help rural diversification and promote close-to-nature holiday experiences. Feather Down own the four safari tents while the owners run the site for the holiday guests.

    Main House Accommodation Ground Floor
The traditional farmhouse offers generous accommodation for a family. A sunroom entrance porch leads into the reception hall with doors leading off to the principal reception rooms. On the right is the dining room (currently used a children's playroom) with wood floor and a wood burning stove. On the left is the living room with an open fire set in a brick fireplace providing a warm focal point, flanked by an attractive built in store cupboard. A door at the end of the hall leads to the large kitchen breakfast room with fitted units, space for appliances and a breakfast bar. A door leads off to a utility room and outside.

    First Floor
Stairs rise up from the reception hall to the first floor accommodation that includes a principal bedroom and three further good size bedrooms. The floor is completed by a family bathroom with bath and separate shower.

Sgubor - Barn Conversion Accommodation Ground Floor
Across the courtyard from the house is a cosy holiday cottage called Sgubor (barn in Welsh) that has been converted by the owners from a traditional stone barn. This impressive conversion has a front entrance that leads into a hallway and onto the large living room and dining room with a French door that opens out onto a private and sheltered garden area. Off the living area is a smart fitted kitchen with separate door to outside. The floor is completed by a bathroom with bath and separate shower.

    First Floor
The first floor accommodation is accessed by a traditional external stone staircase that rises up the side of the cottage. On the first floor are a large bedroom and a smaller bedroom providing cosy sleeping accommodation. These have the use of a WC.

    Externally
The property is accessed by a private track that leads up to the courtyard and a circular drive in front of the main house with the cottage to the right. There is a large parking area to the side of the cottage. The main house and cottage both enjoy their own private garden areas.

    The Outbuildings
The farm has a number of outbuildings including an old stone barn attached to the main house that offers potential to convert and either extend the living accommodation of the house or have a separate annexe (stp – subject to planning).
There are two further useful general purposes open-span outbuildings. One is currently used for storage and has a dedicated workshop/office area. The other barn near the camp site has an excellent shower, WCs, washrooms and honesty shop area for the campsite guests to use. This barn has further space for guests to use as a covered shelter/play area.

Local information

  • Cwmberach Uchaf Farm is situated in an elevated valley position in the south-west corner of the famous Brecon Beacons National Park. Cwmberach Uchaf means ‘the upper valley of the river Berach' in Welsh. The surrounding farmland has all the variety you would expect from a National Park: pasture, moorland, woodland and mountains. A small river – the Berach – runs through it, with mountain springs and marshland dotted throughout.
  • The majority of the Brecon Beacons National Park is situated to the north and east of the farm and offers a variety of outdoor activities including mountain biking, hiking and visits to tourist attractions. You can access the mountain directly from the farm and pick up various footpaths and a bridleway runs along the boundary fence to the north. The large village of Glanaman is only about two miles to the south while the popular market town of Llandeilo is about seven miles to the north-west while good local road connections and the M4 link you with south Wales (Swansea about 17 miles and Cardiff about 58 miles) the Severn Bridge and into England.

Additional information

  • The Land
  • The property extends to about 46 acres (stms – subject to measured survey) of land with pasturefields for grazing, fodder making etc, some rough grazing/moorland and areas of woodland. We have been informed that the farm also has grazing rights on the mountain for two ponies, 14 cattle and 250 sheep. In partnership with Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (BBNPA) and Initiative for Nature Conservation Cymru (INCC), the owners have established a nature reserve on the farm, which covers about 12 acres (stms) and includes new fencing to protect the area, nature trails, gates for access and a variety of ecological enhancements such as bat and bird boxes, wildflower planting, orchard creation (a variety of fruit trees including apple, cherry and damson) new hedgerows and brush piles to support a variety of wildlife.
  • The nature reserve has been identified by the BBNPA as a demonstration site for marshy grassland conservation grazing, which, through targeted grazing, uses different animals that graze at different heights to increase biodiversity of an area. Grazing animals can be very selective in what they eat and cattle eat the more common and vigorous plant species and allow the rarer and more delicate species to come through. Together with trampling the ground, this helps to create a mosaic of different plant heights and micro habitats. The nature reserve area has also been designated as a Site of Importance to Nature Conservation (SINC) by the BBNPA, identified as having substantive importance for nature conservation.
  • Feather Down Safari Glamping Tents
  • As mentioned above the four safari tents on site are owned by Feather Down and the owners run the glamping business in partnership with them. These stunning tents offer a true glamping experience to guests in beautiful surroundings. There is the potential option for this venture to continue with new owners should they wish to. We understand that there is planning permission for five safari tents.
  • Feather Down glamping means hardwood floors throughout your tent, quality bedding, the famous cupboard bed and a wood burning stove. The tents will offer you every comfort, while bringing you back to nature for a getaway that's both relaxing and inspiring. Each Feather Down glamping tent comes without electricity or Wi-Fi, and these are replaced with the ambiance of oil lamps and candles, and the heat from a classic style wood burning stove. Time is spent learning about nature, life on the farm and each other. The tents and cabins are fully equipped for up to six people (max. five adults and one child under 12 years). A great holiday for all.
