An impressive refurbished Edwardian home

About this property

  • Tom an Oir was constructed in 1906. It is an impressive C Listed Edwardian townhouse with a distinctive Arts and Crafts style. Over recent years the house has undergone a programme of refurbishment giving most of its beautifully proportioned rooms a luxurious and stylish feel whilst also highlighting its traditional features.

At the front of the house a vestibule opens to the reception hall giving access to the main reception rooms which are all on the south side of the house. An arched alcove with fireplace, windows and inglenook seats makes the hall particularly welcoming. Broad bay windows fill the dining room and the drawing room with southerly light and an office sits between them. All three rooms have fireplaces, cornicing, original panelling around the windows and attractive built in cabinets or shelving. Woodburning stoves have been fitted into the drawing room, dining room and hall fireplaces. The kitchen has a wall of original timber cabinets and space for a large dining table as well as three large west facing windows and an AGA. This is the only room that has not been refurbished but there is lots of scope to create a fabulous new kitchen at Tom an Oir. Additional practical rooms on the ground floor include a utility room, walk in store rooms, a boot room, cloakroom and two WCs. On the first floor, the three main bedrooms are at the front of the house and have lovely views. Three smaller and very comfortable bedrooms are arranged at the rear of the house with west facing views. Two attractive big bathrooms and two shower rooms serve all the bedrooms. All but one of these bathrooms have been completely refurbished. On the second floor there is a large seventh bedroom/studio room which could be adapted depending on requirements. There is attic storage (with restricted access) at the front of the house.

Outside Stone pillars frame the entrance to Tom an Oir's driveway which winds up the hillside to parking at the side of the house. The garden is terraced and beautifully looked after. Mature trees (some with preservation orders), clipped hedges, paved seating areas and neatly mown lawns are interspersed with colourful shrubs including rhododendrons, azaleas and a large magnolia. At the back of the garden is an orchard. The garden backs onto open fields and the garden at Tom an Oir is wonderfully private.
