About this property

  • A truly glorious detached cottage situated on the outskirts of the hamlet, in a lovely elevated position over-looking the valley.

Pentridge is idyllically nestled in the heart of Cranborne Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Pound Cottage is not listed, and has origins going back to the 1800s, with later additions. The owners have been here since 1996, when a significant extension was added. The property is of mainly brick construction, part cob, under a tiled roof.

The house is charming, with some typical features and character of a house with this provenance and position. The kitchen/breakfast room lies at the heart of the house, with an electric Aga and island and fitted units.

There is a door to the south-west facing terrace, and a further door through to the dining room, formerly the family room.

French doors open out to the garden. The sitting room, with its open fireplace, was added by the owners in 1996 and also has doors to the terrace and lovely views across the farmland to the south-west.

There is a utility room which leads on to the boot room. The WC is just off the entrance hall.

Upstairs, the main bedroom is the newest part of the house, with a bathroom just off and built-in wardrobes. There is a generous landing, with the family bathroom off, and two further double bedrooms.

A further set of stairs leads to the second floor, with the fourth double bedroom, a WC and the loft room; this is a fully useable room and has been a games space, study area and overflow sleeping area.

    Outside
The property is accessed from the no-through lane on to a gravelled parking area with space for up to six cars. The pottery studio and workshop are to one side. A path leads around the house to the rear stone-flagged terrace, south west-facing and a suntrap in the afternoon. Steps lead up to the lawned garden, which narrows into cut walks through the seasonal flowers, towards the fruit cage and vegetable beds.

The land runs in a triangular strip along the lane, with views getting better and better as you walk up the garden. In total the grounds amount to about 0.36 acre, with a small tranche of land on the far side of the parking area available to lease from the owning Estate on a garden lease. Please ask the selling agents for further information.

One of the hardest parts of this job is to value how a place feels. Pound Cottage has a wonderful 'warmth', and welcomes you like an old friend. The current family have grown up here and it is clearly a very happy home.
