About this property

  • Located in the exceptionally popular and prestigious residential lane, set high above the village of Backwell and commanding magnificent and far reaching views. The original house was built in the 1930's and significantly remodelled and extended by the current owners with works completed in October 2000. Enjoying the perfect east/west orientation, the house is flooded with natural sunlight with a lovely, enclosed garden to the rear enjoying wonderful hours of afternoon sunshine, culminating in magnificent sunsets as the sun dips on the distant horizon. The gardens adjoin areas of open fields to the rear and across the lane to the front. Aspects over the lane can be enjoyed to areas of farmland with a picturesque backdrop of trees providing effective screening from the cold easterly winds.

Approached via a generous, smartly tarmacked driveway with parking for numerous vehicles in addition to the integral garage, a bright and spacious hallway features a central Oak staircase with a large, walk-in closet with plenty of space for outdoor clothing and footwear. The formal dining room is certainly large enough for entertaining large numbers of family and friends with a wide bay window overlooking the front grounds. To the far side of the hallway is the most pleasant and light sitting room with feature fireplace, largely decorative but with a capped off gas point, should someone wish to install a living flame fire. From the hallway, three steps lead down to the large garden hall with cloakroom and fully glazed doors leading directly onto a large expanse of terrace with aspects over the swimming pool to Wraxall Hills and the Severn estuary. A pair of glazed French doors open to a superb drawing room of beautifully elegant proportions with a stylish Morso contemporary styled wood burning stove and further doors linking to the garden. Informal day to day dining takes place in the relaxed breakfast room set off the smartly fitting kitchen with granite work surfaces, a Smeg six burner range cooker (available under separate negotiation) and with integrated Bosh dishwasher and built in refrigerator. A large utility room has space for two built in appliances and further space for a tall larder freezer.

On the first floor, a galleried landing features a pleasant seating area commanding views to the fields beyond the front grounds and there are five bedrooms, three of which are en suite, in addition to a very smartly designed family bathroom with walk-in shower. A particularly large airing cupboard features a large Worcester boiler and provides most useful drying space. The principal suite is a fine bedroom with a walk in dressing room set between the en suite bathroom and further area of built in wardrobes. The views from bedrooms to the rear are exceptional.

The gardens to the rear have been designed for entertaining and leisure and are split into three tiers, the first being a particularly large area of terrace bounded by a low stone wall with steps down to the heated 12 m by 4 m swimming pool, beyond which is a lawned area for children or pets. The garden to the front has neat and well stocked shrub and flower boarders surrounding an area of well maintained lawn, bounded by clipped evergreen hedging and with a useful storage shed to one side.
