A rare opportunity to purchase a significant area of commercial forestry close to Perth in Central Scotland

About this property

  • The forests form part of the Scone Estate, which has over 1000 years of history. They are long established, recorded on the 1900 Ordnance Survey, planted to supply timber to the estate sawmill.

Situated in a fertile tree growing area, the woodlands have a diverse age structure with younger crops in particular benefiting from the excellent ground and climatic conditions, with some examples of exceptional growth.

Both sites are well suited to commercial conifer production, being predominantly classified as F2 on the land capability series, which is land with very good flexibility for the growth and management of tree crops. There is a small amount of F3 classification to the west of Lot 1 on higher ground. Soils are predominantly fertile brown earths, with some podzols, and are well drained.

Local information

  • The forests are located in rolling countryside on the lower edge of the Glenalmond Hills west of Perth. Both woods form part of a wider complex of commercial forestry that sits along the southern side of the glen. The predominant land use in the surrounding area is a mixture of farming and forestry. Perthshire has over 200,000 acres of woodland and forests and is known as ‘big tree country', containing some of the most spectacular stands of both hard and softwood tree species in Scotland. The location benefits from excellent access over the A85 to the A9, the main arterial transport route in the region, with links to the north and south
