About this property

  • Completed this year, Millenview is a beautifu new home designed by award winning local architects, The Denholm Partnership. Whilst the house has lots of traditional character with its slate roof, astragal windows, harled walls and painted timber facings, it also has some more distinctive features such as the use of reclaimed brickwork and the installation of an oak framed garage/office both of which give the property a warm and rustic feel. Internally the house has been designed to make the best of its views with large windows filling the house with light, and bold colours giving it atmosphere and style. The entrance hall doubles as a dining room and is bright and welcoming with lots of space for a large dining table. Glazed doors open to a verandah overlooking the back garden. At the western end of the house is an open plan kitchen/dining room with freestanding island, an electric AGA and double Belfast sink. The thoughtfully designed larder has space for a tall fridge freezer and is fitted with shelving and a small sink. The kitchen has a vaulted ceiling with roof lights, two walls of glazing and a door to the garden. Behind the kitchen is the sitting room where a wood burning stove sits on reclaimed bricks surrounded by an antique timber mantel and creates a lovely focal point. On the other side of the room, floor to ceiling glazing frames an uplifting view over the back garden to the distant hills. Double doors from the sitting room open to the dining hall and the two spaces work perfectly for entertaining. Also on the ground floor there is a double bedroom with en suite shower room, a family room/study and a large utility room with built in storage and a back door to an attractive covered porch. On the first floor there is a broad and bright landing. The principal bedroom suite with its dressing room and en suite shower room spans the width of the house as does the second bedroom which has a slightly smaller dressing area and shower. Two further double bedrooms on the first floor share a bathroom.

    Outside
Millenview is set in 0.6 acres of newly landscaped garden. Natural stone walls frame the entrance to a gravel parking area with space for several cars. Paving stones have been laid around the house where various sheltered seating areas have been created under the overhanging eaves. Terraces have been created outside the sitting room and also outside the kitchen, from where there are lovely views. Reclaimed bricks have been used to create pathways and herbaceous borders have been planted around the house. Carefully chosen shrubs fill beds in the lawn and a young beech hedge has been planted around a triangular vegetable garden with raised beds. The Millen burn runs along the eastern boundary of the garden beyond which woodland (not owned) provides privacy and shelter.

    Outbuilding
A particularly attractive element of Millenview is the oak framed garage. It has a box profile roof and painted timber doors giving it a charmingly agricultural feel. Inside there are two lockable stores (one currently used as an office) served with light and power, as well as a dormer window and two lean-to log stores. A water supply has been brought up to the garage and although it is currently closed off, it could be opened up if required.
