About this property

  • Dunard was built for the Cameron family around 1885, and was purchased by our clients in 2011. Since then it has been totally refurbished and extended, yet retains a wealth of original features. Renovations have included re-roofing, re-wiring, re-plastering and installation of a new kitchen and bathroom fittings. It is presented in excellent condition and is surrounded by mature extensive gardens with a wide variety of shrubs and trees.

The accommodation on the ground floor begins with an entrance vestibule which leads into a bright open plan reception hallway. The generously sized drawing room is beautiful, with open views to the village of Tobermory and a fireplace housing a mock wood burning stove. A separate sitting room looks out to the front of the property, while the dining room is open plan to the superb kitchen which includes a black AGA, breakfast bar and island unit with integrated hob. A door to the rear leads to the back porch and inner hallway with cloakroom/WC and fitted utility room. The first floor accommodation comprises a large landing leading to six bedrooms, two of which have en suite shower rooms and there is also a family bathroom on this level.

Local information

  • Dunard sits in a beautiful elevated location with uninterrupted open aspects to the front of Tobermory Bay, Calve Island and beyond to the side of Mull and across to Ardnamurchan. The house occupies one of the prime positions in Tobermory with beautiful open aspects, yet is within close proximity to the main street and harbour.
  • The Isle of Mull was formed by volcanic activity many millions of years ago and its northern coast is separated from the sight of Mull from the landmass of Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point in the UK mainland. The island is world renowned for its extensively varied wildlife, marine life, geology, landscapes and sea views and is a haven for walkers of all ages and expertise.
  • Tobermory is the capital of the island, located in the northeast. It derives its name from the Gaelic ‘Tobar Mhoire' meaning the well of Mary. The town was established in 1788 by the British Fishery Society and a small pier and customs house were the first structures to be built. Queen Victoria visited in the mid-19th century in the Royal Yacht and the royal route was thereafter used by steamship companies to advertise their cruises. Tobermory is famous for its brightly painted harbourfront houses, shops and restaurants with notable buildings including the clock tower, museum, Scottish whisky distillery and Isle of Mull Brewery. In the past Tobermory was famous for the setting for the BBC children's programme Balamory, but recently has featured in both the Winterwatch and Autumnwatch BBC TV nature series, highlighting the wonderfully diverse wildlife within the Isle of Mull.
