About this property

  • A period farmhouse having mainly whitened rendered elevations under a slate roof. The house is now in need of total modernisation and refurbishment yet offers charm and character with huge potential for a buyer to improve to their own specification. There is partial central heating supplied, we understand, by the oil fired Rayburn, and several night storage heaters. Most of the windows have been replaced with double glazed UPVC windows, and many rooms enjoy fine views across the gardens, paddocks and towards the fields beyond.

A stable door opens into the entrance hall with chequerboard tiled floor. Leading off is the cloakroom with WC and basin, also doubling as utility/ boot room with plumbing for a washing machine. The spacious reception/ dining hall has a brick inglenook fireplace with open grate, parquet flooring, understairs store cupboard, and a glazed door to the garden. The sitting room has a tiled fireplace and French doors to the terrace providing fine views across the gardens. The snug/ study has a brick fireplace, French doors to the side and views across the gardens at the rear. The kitchen/ breakfast room is fitted with a range of modern floor and wall units, double oven and two burner hob, two shelved larder cupboards, and an oil fired Rayburn range cooker which we understand also supplies the radiators.

A staircase from the dining hall leads up to the first floor landing. There are five bedrooms, four having wardrobes, and one housing the airing cupboard with hot water cylinder. There is a family bathroom with bath, basin and WC, and a separate shower room with shower, basin, WC and linen cupboard.

    Outside
A metal gate opens into a shingle driveway providing parking for a good number of cars, also giving access to the outbuildings. The Triple Garage has three up and over doors, one electrically operated, and a workshop area. Adjacent is a small Barn, and beyond the Stable Block with four loose boxes. Running behind these is a second gated driveway, giving separate access to the paddocks beyond the house. The pretty gardens extend along the side and mainly at the rear of the house, where there is a sunny south west facing terrace, perfect for summer entertaining. The garden is mainly lawned with cottage borders planted with an attractive variety of roses and herbaceous plants. There are several fruit trees, a vegetable plot, and fruit cage, together with a greenhouse and garden shed. Adjacent to the house, with road frontage and a separate access is a large paddock and further Barn. There are two smaller paddocks behind the house, and all three abut the stream that runs through the village

An additional nine acres comprising several paddocks lies on the opposite side of the stream, accessed by a small bridge from the house, and also by two gated entrances from Mead Lane. NB This bridge is in poor state of repair, and should not be crossed.
