The development provides 10 stunning new homes, four of which are within the Walled Garden itself. These homes have been built with hassle free, energy saving, modern living in mind. The style of the housing emulates the typology that one would expect to find within a walled garden...that of Victorian greenhouses. Victorian greenhouses were finely engineered yet inventive and playful structures with a rational grid and logical construction. They are predominantly single storey and are of course covered in glass. Their structure utilises both timber and iron depending on the size and type of greenhouse.
The proposed new housing at the walled garden borrows heavily from the built form of greenhouses. It utilises both geometric and material characteristics in an endeavour to not only create a new language for building within and adjacent to a walled garden, but also respond to context and scale.
