Beautifully restored five bedroom Tuscan farmhouse with two independent buidings, a 10 x 5 metre pool and wonderful west facing views all surrounded by the countryside between Cortona and Città di Castello.
Tuscany/Umbria border between Cortona and Citta di Castello.
Beautifully restored Tuscan farmhouse in the countryside between Cortona and Città di Castello. The property has an attractive and unusual configuration, consisting of two fully independent stone houses connected by a stunning covered loggia with stone arch beneath. We have seen many stone farmhouses in Tuscany and Umbria, but this is a rare first for us. There are some lovely original architectural features, such as stone surrounds and very old wooden ceiling boards, twinned with modern touches and a warm, very habitable feel throughout. The main section of approx 180sqm which is often used for summer rentals or family and friends, is laid out over 3 floors and has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The upper floor is listed as an attic space, but is used as an occasional bedroom. The smaller house of approx 120sqm is used by the owners as their private residence and has been completed with the same attention to detail and comfort as the other building. A large kitchen with central island leads up to an entrance hall and living room with stone fireplace. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Below the building, on a lower terrace, is a 10x5m swimming pool, which enjoys the stunning west facing sunset views that the house also benefits from. In all approx 0.7Ha of garden and land surround the property. The closest restaurant is around 10 minutes by car, and supermarket around 15 minutes. Cortona is about 25 minutes by car, with similar distances to Castiglion Fiorentino and Città di Castello. A great opportunity to purchase a slice of luxury Italian real estate!
Cortona is the Tuscan hill town made famous by Francis Mayes in her book Under the Tuscan Sun. Surrounded by 3,000 year old Etruscan walls, much of the history of the town is maintained through the varied architecture. With beautiful views over the Val di Chiana and towards lake Trasimeno, Cortona is an attractive place to spend some time. Worth visiting are the Church of the Madonna del Calcinaio painted by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, (1485-1513), the Palazzo Comunale and Palazzo Casali which house the Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca, and the Museo Diocesano with works by Signorelli, Beato Angelico, Sassetta, Lorenzetti, etc.
