About this property

  • Sitting on about three acres of private land and gardens, Grade II listed Russells House was originally built for the Dowager Countess of Earl of Essex. This elegant apartment forms a major part of the original 1714 Georgian period building. The house was built adjacent to Cassiobury Park, the seat of the Earl of Essex. Many notable people have lived at Russells House over the centuries including General Colville who served at the Battle of Waterloo, Maharajah of the Indian Estate of Baroda and the Mayor of London.

As an ideal lock up and leave, the property is tucked away in the fountain courtyard of this prestigious development in Nascot Wood. Rarely can you find such a special home of immense character and style. Features include stunning 7ft double fronted wooden sash windows and a grand 12ft high ceilings to the drawing room and principal bedroom together with ornate coving and skirtings. This beautifully appointed home has to be seen to be appreciated as it is an absolute gem and has been tastefully renovated by the current owners who have really appreciated the beauty of the location and the proximity to London.

Whilst it is known as an apartment it feels very much like a town house. As you come through your own front door you have a welcoming hall with a 30ft view to the very top of the property and steps down to a versatile cellar which is used as both a gym and wine cellar.

On the first floor there is a generous landing with a guest cloakroom and a laundry/utility room. Giving a wonderful feel of peace and tranquility is the elegant drawing room, featuring a fireplace and tall windows that floods with natural light. In the bright and light kitchen dining room there are a comprehensive range of wall and floor units, integrated appliances and the whole room features beautiful and rare Australian Sheoak hardwood flooring. Coupled with that, the dining area has views across the grounds to the front and, like the bedrooms upstairs, benefits from horizon sunsets.

With beautiful tall wooden sash windows the principal bedroom on the first floor has full height wardrobes and features an en suite bathroom with a Japanese sit-in style bath with tree line views through the bedroom window.

Stairs rise to the top floor with a lovely landing space ideal to sit, read and relax. There are two further double bedrooms on this floor.

The family bathroom features wooden panelling, luxurious copper leaf slipper free-standing bath, shower, WC, wash basin and the Australian Sheoak hardwood flooring. There is also access to two large loft spaces, providing great storage space spanning the full footprint of the property.

    Outside
The private extensive communal gardens undoubtedly are a great setting to this stunning Georgian building and are mainly laid to lawn featuring several 300 year old Lebanese cedar trees. At the top of the driveway is the main courtyard with a parking area for residents and there are two parking spaces for this home with direct access to the private fountain courtyard at the front of the apartment.

The owners have been truly happy here. When they moved in nearly a decade ago, they knew very little of the area, but it has been one lovely surprise after the other. From strolling along the canal to walks in bluebell fields in the ancient Whippendell Wood. They have had wonderful meals at many local country pubs and restaurants, and enjoyed drinks with friends and family at The Grove whilst watching the sunset. The house itself has been their dream home, offering Georgian elegance with the practicality of a family home. They love the views of greenery from the windows whilst sitting on the sofa or bed. This brings such peacefulness after a busy London work day! Warm summer days are spent sitting in the garden and sharing drinks with their amazing neighbours, who gave them such a warm welcome from the very first day. This place is truly unique and offers a wonderful lifestyle between country living and London life.
