Local information

  • Suleskerry is situated in an elevated position overlooking Kilbrannan Sound with views to Bute, the Ayrshire coast, the Isle of Arran and down Kintyre towards Carradale and Campbeltown.
  • The nearest village of Skipness (2 miles) lies approximately 12 miles from the village of Tarbert on the Kintyre Peninsula. Skipness is probably best known for its famous castle which was constructed as early as the 13th century and withstood siege by the MacDonald clan during the Colkitto raids. The area has a wealth of historic sites and of particular interest is Kilbrannan Chapel, dedicated to St. Brendan, which also dates from the 13th century.
  • For those who enjoy walking and the outdoors, the Kintyre Way begins at the top of the Corranbuie trail near Tarbert and takes in the breathtaking views of Loch Fyne and the Isle of Arran before it enters Skipness. In addition to hosting many music and art festivals, Tarbert is a popular sailing destination. World-class sailing is available on Loch Fyne and the Clyde Estuary, with marinas at Tarbert (where the regatta week is second only to Cowes in the UK) Portavadie, Crinnan, Ardfern and Craobh Haven and through the Crinnan Canal into the Hebridian waters. The area is equally attractive to the keen golfer, with the renowned Machrihanish golf course some 35 miles away near Campbeltown and pretty 9-hole courses at Tarbert and Carradale.
  • Day to day needs are catered for by the village post office while Tarbert offers a larger range of amenities and professional services. Primary education is available at Skipness Primary with secondary education in Tarbert.
  • A bus service connects Skipness to Tarbert, and a ferry service (summer only) from Claonaig provides a 30 minute crossing to Lochranza on the Isle of Arran.
