About this property

  • A rare opportunity to acquire this building plot with full planning permission.

Nestled between Ipswich and Hadleigh lies the lovely village of Hintlesham. The village of Chattisham, a few fields apart, shares most of the community assets with Hintlesham - a school, pub, two churches and various club organisations.

The architect, Roger Balmer has added his vision below.

This house has been conceived with the intention that it is to be highly sustainable, to make the most of this high-quality site with a raised floor level to provide for lovely views over the farmland to the mature woodland beyond. The aim is for an energy efficient, passive, low embodied material and recyclable dwelling. There will be little plastic and only natural products and finishes in this virtually off grid sustainable dwelling.
Energy for the house will be complemented by an air source heat pump. The building is designed to be formed using cross-laminated timber construction with the use of recycled newspaper or sheep's wool for its insulation and to have excellent airtightness. Constructed mainly of wood for the roof, walls and cladding, it is intended to avoid as many factory products as possible to ensure that natural breathable materials are used wherever possible. Electric car charging points are of course a given.

The grass roof and the garden spaces are planned to encourage high levels of biodiversity. The natural swimming pond is an enjoyable and key feature that aligns well with the ethos of this exciting project.

The expansive open plan floor layout around the sheltered inner courtyard make for an attractive contemporary home. The large areas of glass for solar gain and enjoyment of the views are counter-balanced with the significant roof overhangs to moderate intense sunlight. This relationship has been carefully planned.

With everything combined, this project makes for a very interesting and rare proposition.
