    About this property

    • This unique property is tucked away off the lane surrounded by its own delightful mature grounds. It was designed by Cambridge architect Prof. Ivor Richards RIBA and built in 1983 by the previous owners.

This delightful single storey property has brick elevations beneath mono-pitch tiled roofs at various heights. The predominantly L-shaped design wraps around a courtyard focal point with an additional area on the southern side of the property – now the dining room – with access to two terraces making the most of both the morning and afternoon sun. The contemporary accommodation flows from the reception hall and offers a partially open plan and lovely versatile layout depending on your needs.

With much exposed wood to the ceilings and floors, windows and doors, there are wide double glazed picture windows to many of the rooms allowing the light to flood in and providing various attractive garden vistas from within.

The kitchen/breakfast room is well fitted with an extensive range of fitted cupboards and drawers, pan drawers, an electric oven and hob with extractor and particularly deep Corian work surfaces on one side. In addition, there is a fitted dishwasher, some open shelving, glazed wall cupboards, space for a breakfast table and a two oven Aga.

Steps lead from here to the stunning vaulted dining room with doors either side providing access to both the morning and afternoon terraces. There is also a view from the kitchen through into the sitting room with its open fire, raised stone hearth, extensive shelving, painted brickwork and wide windows to the rear terrace.

Beyond the adjoining cloakroom is the “bedroom wing” with a master suite and up to three further bedrooms (or office/snug/study if preferred). A utility room which is beside the entrance hall completes the accommodation of the main house.

Across the drive is a separate building comprising a self-contained one bedroom guest house incorporating a sitting room with an incredible four aspects, an open fireplace, raised brick hearth and glazed door to the rear, an adjoining fitted kitchen and shower room. This is connected to a useful workshop/store.

The property is approached via a sweeping gravel drive which leads to the double garage and parking area and a large storage building beyond the guest house. The lovely mature grounds provide lawned areas interspersed with mature planting, trees, shrubs and climbers the focal point from many of the rooms being a dining terrace with a pergola. There is a brick path beside the front of the house and there are various stone terraces. As previously described one of which incorporates two ponds.

In all about 0.8 of an acre.

I was really impressed with this unique light-filled home as soon as I pulled in the private drive – I love the spacious reception spaces that subtlety interconnect with each other whilst enjoying views over the different areas of garden – this is a special family home that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
