About this property

  • 37 Tunwells Lane is a handsome and extended semi detached family house with parking, convenient for both the village amenities and the local station (especially with the useful gated rear access). Of Cambridge brick elevations beneath a slate roof, there are many delightful features worthy of note before you even step inside, from the elegant lead veranda, tiled porch, detailed brickwork, modillioned eaves, to the attractive bargeboarding and carved stonework.

There are many period features internally including panelled doors and deep skirtings, cornicing, fireplaces, some stained glass and shuttered windows and as one would imagine, wonderful high ceilings. Sensitively extended, the house flows well from the entrance hall to a double reception room on the right (having tall folding doors which can sub-divide if required) a woodburner in the front half with concealed TV storage and shelving and an open fireplace in the rear together with French Doors to the rear terrace. To the right of the hall is a multi-functional sitting room/music/games room with a marble fireplace and bay window. Beyond is the wonderfully spacious kitchen with underfloor heating, fitted in part with a range of painted cupboards and drawers, Britannia range cooker with 5 ring hob, sink unit with mixer taps, there is a vaulted dining area with extensive additional storage and two sets of doors (one of which are bi-fold) to the terraced areas and garden beyond. A study/3rd reception room with fitted shelving is at the front of the house whilst a useful utility room and cloakroom complete the ground floor accommodation.

There is also access from the rear reception hall area to the cellar.

On the half landing, there is an appealing window seat with storage beneath and boiler access to one side and three double bedrooms each with fitted wardrobes radiate from the main landing, the larger having a useful en suite wet room. In addition, there is another office/dressing room with lovely views overlooking the rear garden and a large family bathroom with separate bath and shower on this floor. On the upper floor is a super, vaulted principal bedroom with dormer window to the rear and velux window to the front; an adjacent shower room and a further (5th) double bedroom with attractive arched window to the front.

    Outside

To the front of the property is a gated shingle drive with turning and parking area with space for several cars, as well as mature planting providing a screen and including a Silver Birch and Yew tree.

To the rear is a lovely private garden with terrace providing al fresco sitting and dining areas. Beyond are lawns with a pathway meandering towards the far end where there is a decked area and space for a trampoline and children's playhouse. Towards the very end of the sizeable garden is a potting shed/greenhouse and very useful and versatile outbuilding providing additional work from home space/gym/studio potential with shuttered windows overlooking the private rear access which is approached via lockable gates at the far end and serves Nos 33-45 Tunwells Lane.

I love the proportions of this elegant village house, what a wonderful family home. The real surprises for me were the vast kitchen/dining living room overlooking the garden and the separate office/gym space at the far end of the long garden… what a treat!
