About this property

  • Dene Hard is a fine family home of great character, the extended and converted coach house dates from around 1840 with flexible accommodation over two floors.

A substantial wooden front door opens to a vestibule leading to the main reception hallway which accesses most of the ground floor rooms. All of the accommodation on this level is centred around a formal courtyard. From the reception hallway a glass door leads into the sitting room with wood panelling, a fireplace with book shelves, windows to the front and a door opening into the sunroom to the side. At the heart of the house is the wonderful drawing room with a five pane oriel bay window with window seat, fireplace, wooden beamed ceiling and stunning views. The dining room mirrors the same features along with polished wooden floorboards. There is also a versatile study/ playroom to the front of the house. The well equipped kitchen has windows overlooking the courtyard and benefits from a good range of floor and wall units, a Stanley range cooker, shelving and a walk in pantry cupboard. There is also an open plan bright breakfast area. A door leads to an additional hallway with access to a family room, utility, and WC; subject to obtaining planning consent, this part of the house has potential to be a self-contained annexe, for Airbnb or extended family use. A workshop and cloakroom complete the ground floor accommodation.

Upstairs, the principal bedroom has fitted wardrobes and also a dressing room off. There are a further four double bedrooms, a family bathroom and shower room.

The gardens at Dene Hard are wonderful, with a stream running through and extending to around 1 acre. They are mainly laid to grass with mature trees and shrubs. The property benefits from the use of a slipway and boat house (requiring upgrading), plus a double garage. There is a mooring which is rented from the Crown Estate which could be passed to the new owner.

Local information

  • Dene Hard sits in a wonderful waterfront position with lovely views over the Gareloch and beautiful gardens of around 1 acre which have been well maintained by the present owners.
  • Garelochhead lies at the head of the Gareloch, approximately 8 miles northwest of Helensburgh, with Loch Lomond a few miles to the east. Development first began in Garelochhead in the 1820s and the village initially grew to cater for visiting steamer passengers. The railway was built in 1894 and sits high on the hillside to the east of the village. There are regular rail services to Oban, Fort William and Glasgow with connecting services to London. The village has local shops, a pub and a church as well as a bowling club and a community centre. Garelochhead is also served by a local primary school. Helensburgh is the nearest major town where Lomond School provides excellent private schooling at primary and secondary level. Hermitage Academy is the local secondary school. Helensburgh is regarded as one of Scotland's most desirable towns with excellent local shopping, a swimming pool and golf course and Rhu Marina is nearby.
  • Some of Britain's most spectacular scenery is around the Loch Lomond area. The loch is crossed by the Highland boundary fault and the physical characteristics of lowland and highland Scotland can be seen within a few miles of each other. Fronting the loch is the Cameron House Hotel which has excellent health club facilities and the Loch Lomond Golf Club.
