An exceptional country house in need of upgrade and repair.
Thorrington House is an exceptional, character family home in a stunning countryside location and represents a fine example of the evolving English country house, with extensions adding space and scale, along with a slightly quirky layout.
Particular highlights include the open-plan dining room running across the rear of the house, with access directly onto the rear Yorkstone terrace and with lovely views through the stone mullion windows. Here, the interior design details incorporate brick block flooring, together with a stone balustrade and fine trompe l'oeil stone walls', some of which are
inset with classical-style murals.
There is also a very impressive Victorian Gothic' wing, which was built later in stone blocks, with its imposing entrance hall and grand 'medieval hall' now used as a drawing room. This huge room has an octagonal turret recess which offers perhaps the best outlook from the house and the tower bedroom above also benefits from this wonderful outlook. In complete contrast, the cosy, lower ceilinged double sitting room has stylish marble fireplaces to both ends and attractive French doors and windows opening to the enclosed front
garden.
The panelled walls and fine coving add to the careful design and make for another very special room. Also worthy of mention is the long, fitted kitchen/breakfast room, which works well and benefits from access straight into a timber garden room at the front of the house, with stone flooring and steps down to the garden.
Finally, the principal bedroom stands out, with a beautiful carved stone fireplace acting as a focal point and, again, there are fine views to the rear through two stylish, symmetrical corner windows. Overall, the house is clearly in need of updating and repair. Going forward, Thorrington House really offers so much potential for an interesting and impressive period family home.
There are lovely mature gardens with an enclosed front garden and an extensive rear terrace, both of which are used as excellent entertaining areas. To the rear, the garden has a swimming pool tucked around to the side and a ha-ha.

This one stands out to me, as a really fascinating English country house in a wonderful setting. Lots of work needed, but so much character and such a sense of theatre, which is surely irresistible to buyers with time, energy and money.
