A Cultural Heritage
A building cluster that stands out from the standard architecture of its day and age – this was the idea of master builder Riehmer, which he implemented brilliantly. In the age of industrialisation, housing in this area tended to take the form of densely built tenements. Riehmer rejected the concept, aiming for high-end quality of living instead and designing a complex 18 buildings with a private street and generous garden sections in between. The result was a quiet, green idyll in the middle of the city. The landscape planning effort seeks to put it to various uses: In addition to quiet retreats embedded in richly varied verdure, there will be meeting zones for socialising among old-growth trees, but also near-natural play areas and a boules court. Horticultural elements like suspended wooden benches, natural stones and sculptures with trails and plant beds blend in harmoniously.
