Attractive family house with south-facing garden.
The Thatched Cottage is an enchanting period yet unlisted house, with wonderful historical charm and delightful, south-facing gardens.
Originally a medieval barn, dating back to around the 15th century, the building is believed to have been converted into a house in the 19th century.
The principal building is timber framed with casement windows and a straw thatch; later additions, including the spacious sitting room and principal bedroom, are under traditional clay pantiles.
Internally, the accommodation flows exceptionally well and comprises wonderfully proportioned rooms with good ceiling height throughout.
The double aspect kitchen/dining room is light and bright space with terracotta tiles, plenty of cupboards, a Belfast style sink and wooden work surfaces. French windows lead directly to the terrace - ideal for al fresco dining.
The kitchen leads through to the dining room: occupying one of the oldest parts of the house, it has an exposed brick wall and many beautiful timbers. A further set of French windows lead to the terrace while the main hall door is to the north elevation.
Beyond the dining room is the cosy snug and family bathroom, and to the right is the elegantly proportioned sitting room, with a wood-burning stove. Double doors leads to a conservatory, which in turn leads to the terrace.
The first floor accommodation comprises four double bedrooms. The principal bedroom is an especially lovely, bright space, with built in wardrobes, casement and velux windows, and an en suite shower room.
OUTSIDE
The Thatched Cottage is set back from the road behind a neat hedge, with wisteria growing on the side. It has beautiful, south facing gardens.
Immediately behind the house is an excellent terrace with a brick built barbecue. Steps lead to an expanse of lawn surrounded by hedging.
At the rear is an enclosed and well-protected area for chickens, and at the front is a useful shed.
There is ample parking over a shingle drive and double garage, with power and lighting.

The Thatched Cottage is a wonderful family home in one of my favourite locations, on the edge of Constable Country. I adore the field views and the garden is especially lovely.
