- Marchmar is situated in the particularly attractive countryside of Aberdeenshire. The Strathbogie area is renowned for its productive mixed farms with the land protected by the surrounding rolling hills. Beyond on Speyside lies the 'Distillery Trail' which attracts visitors to the area keen to sample the blend of highland water and Spring Barley for which the area is famed.
- The small village of Lumsden lies one mile south of Marchmar which boasts a primary school, parish church, garage and shop. The market town of Huntly (12 miles) with its historic castle is a busy local centre which offers a choice of supermarkets, post office, banking and professional services, secondary schooling and swimming pool.
