Exceptional modern village home in private elevated location with gardens, paddocks and stunning views
This remarkable property, constructed in 2010/2011, has beautifully proportioned, light-filled accommodation and has the added advantage of being extremely energy efficient. The striking design creates the impression that Cranesfield has evolved over time, it resembles a 1700s Essex farmhouse with hipped roofs and dovecotes and also enjoys the benefit of full height glazing in the contemporary areas. The house has also been designed to have generous circulation spaces, to maximise natural light and to provide clear sight lines to the gardens and the scenic views beyond.
The stunning reception hall, with its twin curved walls, oak flooring and bespoke sweeping staircase, provides a bright entrance which incorporates French doors to one of the terraces. The impressive vaulted drawing room has oak flooring, a beautiful stone fireplace with a Clearview log burner and bespoke cabinetry. The adjacent dining room also has a fireplace with a Clearview log burner as well as oak flooring. A study/studio and spacious cloakroom are also approached from the entrance hall.
Steps lead to "The Curve", a delightful sitting area with a curved wall of panel glazing that folds fully back, connecting directly to the main terrace and the gardens beyond. The double aspect family room benefits from a Chesney fire, two sets of bifold doors and impressive views adjacent.
A stable door leads to the beautiful part-vaulted kitchen/dining area. Bespoke Plain English cabinetry, honed slate worktops and a walnut chopping board within the central island are complemented by a Wolf range cooker and lighting from Original BTC. An unheated pantry offers excellent storage. The kitchen leads to the rear hall which encompasses a utility/laundry room, a shower/second cloaks and a dog/boot room.
The first floor offers a spacious landing with a curved balustrade. There are two bedroom suites, each located within the dovecote wings and both benefitting from the incredible views. The principal bedroom, which is vaulted, includes a dressing area and a large bathroom with a bath and shower. The guest suite features an en-suite shower room. There are three additional double bedrooms and a family bathroom.
The gardens have been thoughtfully designed to complement the house; they wrap around the property with planting that cleverly radiates from the key axes of the building. The garden is enhanced by mature oak, beech and maple trees. There is extensive yew and beech hedging and beautifully sculptural yew disc topiary. There are two paddocks bordered by mixed hedging, offering both charm and privacy.
There is a flamed-finished Belgian basalt terrace beside the kitchen with outside sitting and dining areas. Stainless-steel poles have been designed to support a sail for shaded seating during the warmer months. York stone paving is set between the house and the cart lodge.
The grounds include a cart lodge garage with an adjacent garden machinery store, workshop and lean-to. The garage benefits from three-phase power.
Within the garden there is: a stunning heated swimming pool featuring a slatted solar cover, a large Hartley Botanic greenhouse with water and electricity, a studio/summer house and a range of useful outbuildings/garden stores. There is an underground rainwater storage tank for garden irrigation.

This really is one of the most spectacular modern homes I've ever seen. I love the design and incredible attention to detail; the light throughout the house, the cleverly planted gardens, the feeling of privacy, the paddocks and all with the most incredible views, in an elevated location within the heart of a really popular village. What a house!
