About this property

  • Bakers Farm is a wonderful home with a superb history. The property started life as an open-hall house in the 1300's with a granary. (now the kitchen) located next door. In 1330, John Le Bakere was recorded at Bakers Farm where he had it as a bakery. The house continued to develop with a jettied floor, this together with each subsequent building style has left their mark, including the screened cross passage, Tudor fireplaces and ceiling and flagstone floor.

The Georgians faced the front of the house which is now incredibly inviting and sets the tone for things to come. Inside, the entrance hall is utterly charming and is perfect for welcoming guests. As you would expect from Georgian architecture, there are two formal reception rooms to either side of the entrance hall in the dining room which has a wood burning stove and the sitting room, both of which enjoy impressive inglenook fireplaces and superb proportions.
The beautiful kitchen/breakfast room is clearly the heart of the home and is centred around the island alongside a wide range of base and drawer units. There are delightful views out onto the courtyard, exposed timbers, as as well as a second staircase which leads to bedroom four/studio. Further accommodation on the ground floor includes the garden room, useful utility, a wonderful back hallway which is a map through the centuries, with an old staircase leading to bedroom 3. Also a wonderful study/snug.

The extraordinary main staircase rises to the first-floor landing where there are four bedrooms and a bathroom in total. Bedroom four/studio offers a great deal of flexibility with its own separate access from the kitchen/breakfast room and a pleasant look out over the courtyard. There are numerous exposed timbers in the vaulted ceiling creating a light and airy flexible space.

    Gardens and Grounds
A particular feature of Bakers Farm is the delightful range of traditional outbuildings which is centred around a private and secluded walled courtyard which enjoys a range of established trees and shrubs. There is vehicular access into the courtyard via a covered area and an exceptional, fun party barn which is perfect for entertaining. Barns include a workshop, pottery room, three stores and an enchanting first floor studio area which is simply magical. In all, there is about 2194 sqft of outbuildings offering a great deal of versatility.

Bakers Farm is rather special, I love the courtyard which is enclosed by traditional outbuildings. The Party barn in particular is great fun and I know many parties have been enjoyed in it!
