Renovation project in the heart of Glen Fruin.

About this property

  • The School House is thought to date from around 1840. It sits in an especially scenic spot in Glen Fruin close to the Fruin Water and has fabulous views to the west across the Glen. The Fruin is a first class salmon and trout fishing river and the house is in close proximity to the popular Black Bridge pools, (permits could be available from the Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association)

On the plot currently is a detached house in need of significant upgrading, with the potential for redevelopment or refurbishment to create a large, attractive family home. The ground floor comprises two former classrooms and bathroom, with the second floor comprising the former Schoolmistress' flat of five rooms and WC. The property has grounds of around 1 acre or thereby.

Our clients have applied for planning permission to demolish the existing building and create a new four bedroom home along with a detached double garage with ancillary accommodation over. Copies of the plans can be viewed through the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority planning portal, reference 2020/0062/DET.

The School House is the former home of renowned local artist Gregor Ian Smith, who utilised the main classroom as his studio.
