The property was once part of the six great estates of Hayle, with the Bodriggy family estate stretching back as far as 1181, before Hayle proper came into being. The current house was built in 1718 on the site of an earlier property and then is thought to have been divided by two sisters in around 1728. It was also once owned by Merchant Curnow who helped to develop the Copperhouse area of Hayle in the mid 1700s.
