    About this property

    • This striking former vicarage dates from the late 1800's and was built to serve the neighbouring church of St Peter's. Passing into private ownership in the 1980's, the property bears all the hallmarks of a late Victorian vicarage, period features in abundance and classic proportions throughout, but with numerous contemporary additions which combine to form a comfortable family home of real character, in a picture postcard setting.

The house occupies an elevated positon, flanked by woodland to the north, with picturesque views to the south across the village and Forge Valley and to the west up Lowdales. Approached via a pillared driveway which leads to a large parking area, with a former agricultural barn to one side providing garaging, garden equipment storage and a workshop.

This is a large house but not too large, the accommodation flowing in a very practical manner, the well balanced reception rooms leading off a central hallway, all with large shuttered picture windows framing the views. The traditionally styled kitchen boasts all of the modern luxuries and plenty of storage, supported by a generous breakfast room. The theme continues on the first floor where five double bedrooms are served by two contemporary bathroom suites, each bedroom enjoying contrasting far reaching views. In addition there is an inviting conservatory and partially converted cellar which currently serves as a games room / gym.

Of particular note are the mature gardens which lie predominantly to the south and west, arranged over a series of gradual terraces; a graveled area flanking the property, merging into a sweeping lawns divided by structured beds, bordered by well tended hedgerows interspersed by mature trees which help frame the views. There are two wildlife ponds and numerous spots to sit and enjoy the views.
