History
Built in c. 1960's Oak Lodge was originally built for use as a fishing lodge to compliment the nearby manor, Bellinter House. After a number of years living in the manor house, the now Bellinter House Hotel, the owner of Bellinter, Cecil Briscoe, moved to Oak Lodge and enjoy his retirement fishing on the adjoining River Boyne. His son George Briscoe, who became Master of the Tara Harriers, moved into Bellinter House.
A historic reinforced concrete pillbox is located within the grounds of the property. A series of these were constructed at every bridge crossing along the River Boyne as a line of defence in 1940 during World War II.
