About this property

  • The main front door opens to a vestibule and then through double doors to the main reception hall. The hall is an impressive space with a broad carved timber staircase, timber doors, skirtings and carved door facings. There are beautiful stained glass panels in the inner hall door and on the staircase window. The dining room and drawing room are situated on either side of the hall. Both of these rooms have high ceilings, deep cornicing and ornate carved fireplaces. Large sash and case windows fill these rooms with light and together with the billiard room, they are fabulous for entertaining. The billiard room has equally impressive proportions, a carved fireplace and some beautiful wood panelling. A door from the billiard room lead into the conservatory and then the swimming pool. Both of these areas have been much used and enjoyed by the current owners, however they now require some refurbishment.

In addition to the formal entertaining rooms at Glenardle there is a family kitchen with a cream four door AGA and space for a large dining table. The kitchen has a run of lovely old pine cabinets fitted along one wall. Behind the kitchen is a utility room with back door, a boiler room and a cloakroom.

On the first floor a U shaped landing provides access to the master bedroom suite and the principal guest bedroom, both situated on the main landing overlooking the front garden. A smaller bedroom between them could make a useful dressing room and there are three further double bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room. On the third floor there are three useful rooms, all with windows. Currently these rooms are used as an office, a craft room and a store.

    The Cottage
The Cottage can be accessed from within the main house or by its own external door. It has a bright open plan dining kitchen and a cosy sitting room on the ground floor with two bedrooms and a shower room upstairs. The Cottage would be ideal for accommodating elderly relatives, a housekeeper or for holiday rentals.

Glenardle House is situated in just under three acres of mature gardens and grounds. Wrought iron gates open to a private driveway which leads past a large pond and through mature woodland to parking at the front or rear of the house. An ornamental pond runs the length of the driveway and with a variety of waterside plants providing lovely colour in the spring and summer. On reaching the house, the driveway loops back around an expanse of neat lawn, which was formerly a grass tennis court, and forms a back driveway down to the entrance gates. At the front of the house there is a large expanse of lawn with shrubs, rhododendrons and mature trees providing privacy and shelter on all sides. There is plenty of space to sit out in good weather either at the front of the house or on a terrace beside the swimming pool.

On the north side of Glenardle there is a double garage, workshop, coal store and gym with an impressive spiral wine cellar built in beneath the floor. The outbuildings form an attractive courtyard to the side of the house.
