An impressive Victorian village home
Appleton House dates from 1856 when it was built for the Perth Banking Company. The property has been B Listed by Historic Environment Scotland. The dining room at Appleton House was where the bank and office would have been while the remainder of the house was once the bank manager's home. The original walk-in safe and strengthened security doors are still in place. A wrought iron gate from Errol High Street leads to the front door, while a side gate leads to what was formerly the public entrance to the bank. The front vestibule opens into the reception hall with the dining and drawing rooms on either side. Both are beautifully proportioned with tall arched windows, and original cornicing. The finest cornice work however is in the sitting room which is another beautiful room with equally large windows and an open fireplace. Also on the ground floor is a breakfasting kitchen, utility room, boot room and WC. On the first floor there are four double bedrooms and a fifth bedroom which is currently used as a study. There is a shower room on the first floor and a bathroom situated on the half landing.
Outside
The garden at Appleton House has been beautifully maintained with neatly edged lawn surrounding circular beds at the front and herbaceous beds to the rear. There is an expanse of lawn on the east side of the garden where there is also a summer house. A paved terrace wraps around the south eastern sides of the house and provides a great spot for sitting out in good weather.
The Coach House
The former coach house and stable block is a pretty traditional building which is currently divided into four parts providing a garage, a general store room, a fuel store and a garden store. Subject to obtaining the relevant planning consents the this building could be converted for a number of uses.
