    Local information

    • In the midst of the Hohe Tauern National Park, Bad Gastein basks in fresh mountain air, 1,000 metres above sea level. This is a world renowned spa town with a very special flair: relaxation and recreation in pure air, combined with a high-altitude climate and Gastein's thermal waters.
    • With an extensive selection of activities, Bad Gastein has something to offer for everyone. Sports and recreational activities supplement the spa and wellness amenities at the world-famous springs and healing galleries of the Alpentherme Spa, just down the valley in Bad Hofgastein. Bad Gastein also has its own Felsentherme Spa.
    • Winter & Spring
    • Bad Gastein is a winter wonderland for adventure sports with extensive skiing areas up to an altitude of 2700m. There are 201km of groomed pistes in the valley, providing perfect conditions for both beginners and advanced skiers, with varying levels of difficulty: 60km of beginners/nursery slopes, 117km medium, and 24km difficult.
    • This includes selective powder and mogul runs and carving areas (there is a permanent carving run in the Sportgastein ski area). Skiers can choose from the ski links Stubnerkogel-Angertal-Schlossalm, the World Championship standard Graukogel and the high-altitude alpine glacier region of Sportgastein. With an optimum altitude and snow machines covering a wide area, snow can be guaranteed from the end of November until the end of April.
    • Bad Gastein is a paradise for crosscountry skiers, with well-groomed, marked-out “langlauf” routes. Like winter hiking, this Nordic sport leads participants to some of the most beautiful parts of Austria. Cross country fun can be enjoyed right into spring in Sportgastein: a high altitude cross-country run with guaranteed snow at an altitude of 1600 metres. Other activities include snowshoeing, a gentle way to see nature close-up; tobogganing on the 2.5km run that is lit at night; and rides on a horse-drawn sleigh that takes you through the deep snow in the Gastein valley. Bad Gastein also has a natural ice rink.
    • Summer & Autumn
    • Summer in the Bad Gastein Valley offers a wealth of physical activities. Hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park, trekking, cycling, mountainbiking, horse-riding and walking are just some of these. The Valley has 27 forest walks with a total length of more than 100km. A bicycle-friendly infrastructure has been created for cyclists and bikes can be hired from most sports shops. The Gastein Golf club offers an 18 hole golf course at the bottom of the valley in Bad Gastein, surrounded by a charming landscape. Golf Club Gastein was founded in 1960 and is one of the oldest and most traditional clubs in Austria. Available all year round, the renowned Felshentherme Spa is one of the top Spa and Wellness centres in the region. There are large and small pools (+36° C), Turkish baths, Finnish baths, waterfall, slides and a 1000m2 spa-area. Seventeen hot springs provide the Gastein-thermal baths where you can relax after an active day.
    • Bad Gastein has many high quality hotels and restaurants also boasts the first casino to ever be built in the Alps.
