A fine former mine captain's house with spectacular views over the Bristol Channel. Hill House comprises the handsome and well proportioned former mine captain's house set in fine gardens, supported by an attractive holding of encircling land and a good selection of outbuildings, which provides amenity to the house in addition to grazing for horses or livestock. In all about 23 acres.

About this property

  • The house offers good quality reception rooms with high ceilings embellished with period detailing of plasterwork, open fireplaces, joinery and panelled doors. The farmhouse style kitchen leads on to the practical areas at the rear of the house where there is plenty of space for outdoor coats, storage, dogs and laundry areas. Upstairs the main bedrooms also have tall ceilings and are all accessed off the wide landing running through the house. Up again to the second floor there is a large unused (other than for storage) area that would provide additional living accommodation if converted. The house is not listed and benefits from discrete double glazed replacement windows.

The gardens lie mainly to south and east of the house and are largely walled and include a parterre with box hedging, herbaceous borders, paved terracing, pergola of ash trees, wide outdoor dining terrace al surrounded by beautiful mature beech and lime trees and a spectacular view over the Bristol Channel into south Wales in the far distance.

The house is also supported by ranges of both traditional and more modern farm and domestic outbuildings that provide accommodation for livestock. They include a long range of stone buildings and an adjoining framed farm building offering over 4,500 sq ft in a covered yard and lean-to.

The land forms an encircling ring around the house. It comprises about 17 acres of level pasture and home paddocks running down to a strip of about 5 ½ acres of deciduous woodland running along the northern boundary. Within the woodlands a network of paths gives access to the pond and links in with the bridle path that leads out into the wider landscape.
