About this property

  • An elegant, listed Georgian townhouse set in one of the finest positions in the historic conservation village of Eaglesham with beautiful open aspects to the Orry. Mansefield House retains many traditional features and has a courtyard, a beautiful walled garden and an additional large area of garden to the rear of the property. The property is being presented to the market for the first time in 90 years. The accommodation begins with an entrance vestibule which has three stairs leading up to the reception hall (the original stone step still exists which was used to mount a horse (louping stane). The reception hallway has a beautiful etched glazed door with original cornicing and stone staircase leading to first floor level. There is a formal dining room with sash and case windows looking out to the Orry and a black marble fireplace surround. The sitting room has window aspects to the front and a large walk in store cupboard off. The dining sized kitchen has a Rayburn range at its focal point and there is a downstairs bathroom with four piece suite and an additional ground floor cloakroom/WC. The first floor accommodation comprises a drawing room with original cornicing and an open fireplace. Again there are attractive views to the front over the Orry. There are four bedrooms in total (three double, one single).

To the rear of the property is the original coach house which comprises a workshop and tool store with an additional store room on the first floor level which was originally the coachman's flat. The previous owner used the lower level as a garage. Beyond the rear courtyard is the walled garden which is a credit to the current owners and has a wide variety of mature trees and shrubs which provides seasonal colour and includes magnolias, rhododendrons, fruit trees and azaleas. Beyond the walled garden there is an additional area of garden which is elevated, mainly lawned and again has a pleasing range of mature shrubs and trees.

  • Eaglesham is a village of historic interest and it is probable that there has been a place of worship in Eaglesham since the 5th or 6th century. In the 17th century it was a small kirktoun and the present village was developed from 1769 by Alexander Montgomerie, 10th Earl of Eglinton. Many of the buildings within Eaglesham are listed and the village was designated Scotland's first outstanding conservation area in 1960. Eaglesham is served by a primary school, two churches, medical centre, dental surgery, optician, garage, a library and a wide variety of local services such as shops, art galleries, restaurants and tea rooms.
  • There are a number of secondary schools in the surrounding area, including Mearns Castle High School, Williamwood High School and St Ninian's High School, while some notable private schools, such as Belmont House School and Hutchesons' Grammar are easily accessible on the south side of Glasgow.
  • The countryside around Eaglesham offers a variety of outdoor activities including walking, cycling, fishing and golfing at the many well respected golf courses in the area. Glasgow city centre is approximately 20 minutes drive (in normal driving conditions) and Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick Airports are within easy reach.
