About this property

  • Glenhurich Lodge is an enchanting detached villa formed by the conversion of an 18th century croft house and a 19th century school house. The mature gardens are a credit to the current owners and greatly enhance the appeal of this unique home. The accommodation on the ground floor begins with a reception hallway off which is the good sized drawing room with stone finish to the gable wall and a feature fireplace housing a contemporary wood burning stove. There is an open plan kitchen/dining room with a range of base and wall mounted units along with a range cooker; utility room; bathroom with modern suite, cloakroom / WC and large double downstairs bedroom. The accommodation on the first floor comprises four additional double bedrooms and a single bedroom plus another family bathroom.

Glenhurich Lodge is surrounded by carefully tended mature gardens which extend to approximately 1.4 acres. They are mainly lawned with a wide variety of shrubs. The property benefits from outbuildings including garages and stores and there is ample parking on two driveways. A stream runs through the gardens.

Additional information

  • History of Glenhurich Lodge
  • Glenhurich Lodge was originally built as a shooting lodge sometime in the 1860s. The tall
  • Douglas Firs facing the lodge were planted at the same time. The “cottage” side of the present
  • lodge was built sometime after 1903 by the Forestry Commission as quarters for their staff and
  • was originally detached from the main building. Between 1949 and 1963, the lodge became the
  • local school with the highest number of pupils from the local area reaching 13 in 1959. The
  • single class room was the present sitting room, while the teachers occupied the remainder of the
  • main building. Following 1963, the buildings fell into disrepair for some years, until the Fisher
  • family bought the property and joined the two buildings into a single dwelling during the
  • restoration work. Glenhurich Lodge remained a family home until the present owners bought it
  • in 2013.
