  • Believed to date from the early 19th Century, Chequers Manor is an attractive country house, approached via a long sweeping driveway. The property provides gracious accommodation including fine reception rooms, impressive fireplaces and detailed cornice work. The property has undergone an extensive restoration project by the current owners. Tremendous natural light is created by the imposing sash windows, there are high specification fixtures and fittings throughout the house. The main reception rooms are well positioned to take full advantage of the views to the south over the manicured gardens and grounds, and across the surrounding Chiltern Hills.

The property has 3 splendid reception rooms on the ground floor, including a dining room, drawing room and sitting room. The kitchen/breakfast room is located at the rear of the house, bi-fold doors lead out to terracing and the stunning courtyard garden. From here there is access to the old stable block and garaging.

The principal house provides well laid out, spacious accommodation (please see floor plan for details).

On the first floor of the main house there are 4 generous double bedroom suites, which includes an impressive master bedroom suite with bathroom, dressing room and access to a terrace. There are 7 additional bedrooms in the old stable block. Annexe 1 comprises 4 bedrooms with open planned kitchen/living area and Annexe 2 comprises 3 bedrooms with an open plan kitchen area. The flexible accommodation makes Chequers Manor ideal for entertaining friends and family or it could be used for additional staff.

In the grounds there is a pretty 3 bedroom lodge beside the entrance gates, extensive garaging, swimming pool with timber cladded pool house, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and exceptional formal gardens with post and rail paddocks beyond. The land extends to about 67 acres.

A range of traditional buildings forming an attractive stable yard centred around the courtyard garden and comprising 3 loose boxes, tack room and foaling box/feed store.

The garaging is of block construction under a tiled roof with pretty central clock tower. Comprising 1 single, 1 double and 1 quadruple garage all with electric up and over doors, light and power. In one garage there is a hydraulic lift enabling the storage of an additional vehicle underneath. Office/kitchen with range of units and separate W.C. Covered floodlit indoor tennis court.

The entrance drive winds through extensive lawns, interspersed by fruit trees and surrounded by a mature mix of broad leaved and coniferous trees, culminating in a sweeping parking and turning area in front of the house. The main gardens lie to the south of the house with lawns leading down to a ha-ha, flanked by well stocked flower and herbaceous borders.

Off the main lawn is a heated swimming pool enclosed by hedging and incorporating a wooden pool house.

Behind the swimming pool area is an additional timber shed housing the filtration unit and oil fired boiler, with garden shed/further changing area.

One particularly special feature of the garden is the enclosed courtyard garden confined by the stables, guest cottages, garaging, gym and the office. It is part paved with an area of lawn, and beautifully planted with a wide variety of shrubs providing a range of colour and foliage. There is a floodlit hard tennis court and a separate garden store with double doors.
