A magnificent period house with stunning accommodation, set in beautiful gardens in the sought-after village of Burchetts Green

About this property

  • Stubbings Manor is a highly impressive property, occupying the major part of this magnificent historic manor house and presented with stunning accommodation throughout. The property's handsome red brick elevations and tall chimneystack create an air of period grandeur, while the house is set in beautifully maintained gardens.

Inside, the accommodation combines original character and period detailing with modern, stylish fittings and décor. Exposed floorboards and brickwork combine with heavy timber doors, high ceilings and large windows, while the clean, neutral décor allows the elegant details to shine through.

The magnificent drawing room and the splendid formal dining room provide the main living space on the ground floor. The drawing room has a dual aspect, with French doors opening onto the gardens, while the dining room has wooden flooring and a contemporary recessed stove. The kitchen and breakfast room has modern units in cream and black granite worktops, and includes a central island and integrated appliances, while south-facing bi-fold doors open onto a south facing terrace.

Upstairs there are four double bedrooms, including the well-proportioned and inviting principal bedroom, which has its own dressing room with fitted storage, and an en suite bathroom with an opulent sunken bathtub and a walk-in shower. Two further bedrooms are en suite, while there is also a family bathroom.

There are two entrances to the property for vehicles – the main entrance with its wrought-iron gates, which open onto a gravel parking area and lead to the double garage, and a second entrance with a five-bar timber gate, which opens onto a second gravel parking area. The house is set in delightful gardens, with paved terrace areas and pathways, timber decking, immaculate lawns, colourful flowerbeds, box hedging and a variety of mature shrubs and trees. There is also a hard tennis court, while at the back of the garage there is a garden office with French doors opening onto the shaded timber decking area.

Additionally there is a third share of approximately 5 acres (2.032 hectares) opposite of privately owned common land.

Local information

  • Burchetts Green is a small charming village with a thriving community; a well-regarded One-Star Michelin Pub, The Crown, and a small C of E school for 5-7-year olds.
  • There are many fine houses in the village plus the lovely Grade I listed, Hall Place (the Berkshire College of Agriculture - one mile distant). The Forestry Commission land close to Ashley Hill (the highest point of East Berkshire) is also nearby. The property therefore has easy access to about 1,000 acres of attractive well-managed countryside locally, good for walking and riding.
  • The pretty Thameside towns of Marlow and Henley are close at hand each offering an extensive array of top-quality shops, restaurants and pubs. Ascot, Windsor and Eton are only 15 minutes' drive away.
  • Stubbings Manor is ideally placed for communication with both the M4 (J 8/9) and M40 (J4) easily accessible via the Marlow bypass (A404). There is a fast and three-trains-per-hour rail service to Paddington from Maidenhead Station, only 6.2 miles by car. From 2021 Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) will open, with new 1,500-passenger, air- conditioned trains directly through London to the West end, City and Canary Wharf from both Maidenhead and Twyford stations. There is also a good service from High Wycombe to Marylebone and Birmingham.
  • There are local state schools nearby and various other independent schools are also readily accessible such as Caldicot Prep School, Borlase, Lambrook Pre and Prep Schools, Wellington College and Eton College.
