The garden is mainly open heathery grassland interspersed with paths and mature trees that provide privacy and encourage wildlife. There is a deer fence along the southern boundary of the garden. In 1993, outline planning permission (Ref.No93/01574/FUL now lapsed) was approved for a cottage in the grounds of Cruivie.
