The cottage is set in a large garden and sits in a private position surrounded by farmland to the north and east. It was originally the gardener's cottage for the Cockairnie estate. There is also a log store, a shed housing machinery, a large workshop with electricity, a chicken coop and run, and a greenhouse. There are two stone-built outbuildings adjacent to the house, both with electricity. There is scope to create an outdoor studio which would be ideal for working from home.
