One of North East Hampshire's Most Outstanding Grade II Village Houses. Period Living Magazine's Country House of the Year (2012).
The Malt House is a stunning 15th Century period property built of timber frame, red brick construction under a tiled roof, with oak framed leaded windows. The house is listed Grade II and is approached from the village street via steps to an oak front door framed by a magnificent 200-year-old wisteria. Side access is provided via a pair of electric gates which lead onto a graveled driveway.
A truly exceptional interior throughout. The Malt House has a number of magnificent rooms which are well proportioned and full of character.
The welcoming oak-floored Entrance Hall leads through to the spacious Drawing, Sitting and Dining Rooms, where original oak beams, wood paneling, exposed brick walls and large open fireplaces create a magical setting for entertaining and relaxing. In addition, just off the Boot Room and steps leading down to the Cellar, there is a large Family Room, ideal for children.
The modern, open plan family Kitchen is full of light with two sets of French doors leading onto the garden. It is fitted with traditional hand-painted cabinets, oak and granite worktops, a four oven gas AGA, an integrated four burner gas hob, electric oven and dishwasher.
Either side of the Kitchen are two walk through rooms, currently used as two Studies. Both have fitted shelving. One leads onto the Hall and Cloakroom, the other which could serve as a Pantry to the Utility Room.
An oak staircase leads up from the hall to the galleried landings off which may be found the stunning Principal Bedroom Suite with its vaulted and timbered ceiling, cosy fireplace, Dressing Room and en suite Bathroom. There are five further Double Bedrooms (two with en suite Bathrooms), a Family Bathroom and a secondary staircase leading down to the Kitchen.
Gardens and Grounds
The grounds of the Malt House are simply breath-taking. To the rear of the house are lawns and various herbaceous flower borders, enclosed by mature trees and hedgerows and which back onto fields. In the north western corner of the garden, a well-hidden hard Tennis Court is tucked behind four glorious lavender beds. To the south west, a Summerhouse overlooks a levelled croquet lawn.
Next to the house is a Swimming Pool securely set within a walled garden. The pool has a wide York stone paved surround which makes an ideal area for outdoor entertaining and relaxing. There are two gated access points to the pool, one of which leads to the kitchen via a small courtyard, while the other opens onto the croquet lawn. The gravelled driveway leads through to parking and a Period Barn, currently used for garaging. The Barn can house up to four vehicles, can be decorated to provide a magical outdoor party room and is of timber framed construction with a mixture of brick and timber clad elevations under a clay tiled roof. To the side and beyond the Barn is a screened Kitchen Garden which includes fruit canes, a Greenhouse, and two Stables and a Tack Room which are currently used for garden equipment storage.
The Kitchen Courtyard is sheltered and provides a changing area with pump facilities for the pool.
To the front of The Malt House are approximately 5.5 acres of field Pasture Land/Paddock which the owner currently rents out for grazing. The land protects the property's glorious rural views and leads to the River Whitewater which has been designated as an SSSI. Please note that there is a footpath that crosses the field.
In all the grounds measure approximately 7.7 acres.
