A unique architect designed home with stunning coastal views across the Inner Hebrides
Torr Buan House is a contemporary high specification detached home which was individually designed for our clients in 2003. The property is built in an arc shape with fantastic large reception spaces and an expanse of glass on the southern elevation, maximising the breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape and stunning sea views of Hebridean islands and the mountains of Mull. The house was built to eco-friendly specifications with sheep wool insulation, high efficiency boiler and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor.
The double-height reception hallway is open to the dining room and a bespoke staircase leads to a gallery landing on the first floor. The space is flooded with natural light from an expanse of windows at the front which stretch from the floor to the upper level. The principal reception rooms are all located off the reception hallway creating an open plan interconnected space split across numerous levels.
There is a stunning double-height vaulted sitting room with exposed oak beams, an open fire and large floor to ceiling windows which capture the views to the south with a circular window capturing the view of Ben More. A door opens into the dining area and sun room, while being open to the kitchen. The fitted kitchen is a unique circular shape with an AGA, integrated appliances, Caithness stone worktop and a pantry off. There is a bay window to the side overlooking the gardens and ample space for a dining table and chairs.
There is a dining area running along the southern elevation of the property, which can be accessed off the reception hall or sitting room. There is an expanse of glass doors along the full width of the south and west elevations which offer a panoramic view of the surrounding coastal landscape and islands, along with the highest peak on Mull, Ben More. There is an office/study and a lower bedroom suite, with a sitting room area, spacious bedroom and en suite shower room, a door to the side allows a separate private access to the bedroom suite. This room was run as a B&B charging £150 per night.
A gallery landing on the first floor leads to the master bedroom which boasts stunning views of Ulva, built in wardrobes and a circular en suite bathroom. There are two further double bedrooms and a shower room on this level. All rooms have stunning views across the landscape.
The house sits in a secluded plot of about 1.8 acres at the end of a short private road. The house is surrounded by decking giving expansive views and a large entertaining space. A store room/workshop is attached to the rear property. There are a number of stone built black-houses within the plot, which offer potential to develop, subject to the necessary consents.
