Charming Grade II listed house in this sought after Dorset village.

About this property

  • Stephouse is a charming Grade II listed village house having most appealing elevations of alternating panels of red brick and knapped flint to the front, and red brick to the rear, under a slate roof. The elevations are enhanced by pretty arched cast iron casement windows in the older part of the house. This much loved home was extended and refurbished in the late 1990's, and whilst well maintained, would now benefit from a degree of modernisation and redecoration. The house is bright and spacious with many rooms featuring double aspect windows, and there are views out over the gardens from most rooms.

An arched front door opens into a small entrance porch with trefoil shaped windows, with a second door to the charming sitting room with marble fireplace, cast iron inset and log burner, the dining room also has a fireplace with open grate and a cupboard to one side, and the study leads through to the guest cloakroom. The ‘L' shaped kitchen/ breakfast room has windows to side and rear and is fitted with an extensive range of painted wood units with built in oven and hob, fridge freezer and an oil fired Aga with canopy over, the rear hall/ boot room has a door to the garden, the utility room has a Belfast sink, plumbing and space for washer and dryer and also houses the oil fired boiler.

A staircase from the rear hall leads to the first floor landing with large airing cupboard, the double aspect master bedroom has steps down to a dressing room with built in wardrobes, and an en suite bathroom with bath, wet room shower, wash basin and WC, the second bedroom has built in cupboards and a wash basin, the third bedroom has built in wardrobes and there is a spacious family bathroom.

The house has the benefit of oil fired central heating, partial secondary double glazing, and several rooms feature period style cast iron radiators.

A five bar gate and long shingle driveway lead up to a parking and turning area adjacent to the house and to the Carport. The former garage has been converted into a Guest Annexe with sitting room/ kitchen, bedroom and shower room. The gardens of Stephouse are a delightful feature extending in all to about 0.8 acres and being well stocked with a wide variety of shrubs and herbaceous plants. The gardens, which are perfect for summer entertaining, lie on three sides of the house and are mainly laid to lawn, with borders and beds, and rustic work trellises. They adjoin farmland at the rear, and have open views across farmland on the opposite side of the lane at the front. Within the garden are a timber garden shed, a brick store, and a greenhouse.
